* Three wild elephants killed after being hit by a night mail train

Sept 28, Colombo: Three elephants have died after a herd of wild elephants collided with the night mail train traveling from Kankasanthurai to Colombo.

It is reported that the three wild elephants collided with the train near Galgamuwa at around 11.50 last night. The accident has happened about one kilometer away from Galgamuwa railway station.

Part of the engine of the train has also been damaged due to the collision with the elephants. However, the train resumed its journey about an hour delay after the collision.

The police have informed the Galgamuwa elephant control unit about the dead and injured elephants in this accident.
