* Two killed in a shooting in Avissawella; two injured

Sept 21, Colombo: Police say that two people were killed and two others were injured in a shooting that took place early this morning in Thalduwa, Avissawella.

The two injured individuals have been admitted to the Avissawella Hospital after sustaining critical injuries. Hospital sources say that the condition of one of the injured is serious.

Two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle have opened fire with a T56 weapon at four individuals travelling in a three-wheeler from Avissawella towards Kegalle near the Gurupasgoda Bend in Ihala Thalduwa area in the Avissawella police division and fled.

The four victims were rushed to the Avissawella Hospital, but two of them, a 27-year-old and a 36-year-old, had succumbed to their injuries.

All victims are said to be residents of Thalduwa. The reason for the shooting has not been ascertained yet.

No arrests have been made and Avissawella Police are conducting further investigations.
