Sept 18, Colombo: Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Nihal Thalduwa said 6 suspects were arrested in connection with attack on a Tamil commemoration procession in Trincomalee.
Six people, including two women, were arrested by China Bay and Trincomalee Police on suspicion of attacking the vehicle parade commemorating the late LTTE leader Thileepan, and the Jaffna District Tamil National People's Front Member of Parliament Selvarasa Gajendran, who led the procession in a truck in Sardhapura, Trincomalee.
The suspects were identified based on the photos and video footage taken at the scene of the incident.
After the attack, the convoy turned back and went towards Tambalagamuwa and the MP Gajendran complained to the Inspector General of Police by telephone.
Later, a Trincomalee police team came to Tambalagamuwa and after recording the MP’s complaint, handed over the investigation to the China Bay Police.
Out of the four arrested by the China Bay Police, three are residents of Trincomalee WijesekeraPura and the other is a resident of Sardhapura. The two arrested by the Trincomalee police are residents of Manayaveli and Sumedhankarapura.
