* CID handed over investigation into the shooting of MP Uddika Premaratne’s vehicle in Anuradhapura

Sept 18, Colombo: The investigation regarding the incident where the private vehicle of Anuradhapura District Parliamentarian Uddika Premaratne was shot at yesterday in front of his house in Anuradhapura, has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The Police Media Division announced that the relevant investigations were immediately handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department on the orders of the Inspector General of Police.

A group of individuals has opened fire at the vehicle of the Parliamentarian at around 10.35 pm as he was returning to his private residence alone after going out for an event.

The MP was not injured in the shooting, the police said.

A live bullet and an ammunition casing were also found at the place of the shooting and it has been revealed in the preliminary investigation that the attack was carried out with a 9 mm type pistol.
