* Gazette declaring power, fuel & health sectors essential services extended

Sept 18, Colombo: President Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification extending the declaration of several sectors essential services as of 17 September 2023.

The Gazette has been issued under powers vested in the President in terms of Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act, No.61 of 1979.

This extraordinary gazette notifivation has been issued with the signature of the Acting Secretary to the President Mrs. Chandanie Wijayawardhana.

The Gazette states that all services connected to the supply of electricity, and the supply or distribution of petroleum products and fuel as essential services.

The Gazette also states that all service, work or labour, of any description whatsoever, necessary or required to be done in connection with the maintenance, and the reception, care feeding, and treatment, of patients in hospitals, nursing homes, dispensaries, and other similar institutions, as essential services.
