Sun, Sep 17, 2023, 11:58 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 17, Colombo: Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles said the government was able to elevate the welfare of the police officers in the past year and in return he expects a honest and quality service form all police officers.

The Minister made this comment after opening the new building of Polpithigama Police Station Saturday (16) at Polpithigama. After the opening, the Minister went on an observation tour of the new building, and participated in a tree planting program and a public meeting organized by the Polpithigama Police Station.

Addressing the public meeting, the Minister of Public Security said he is happy that the new building, which has been needed for many years, has been completed.

The Minister said when he assumed the responsibility of the Public Security Ministry in May last year, the country was in a state of confusion and the pride and dignity of the police officers had deteriorated.

The Minister also pointed out that the pride and dignity of the police officers today have been raised again due to what the government has done throughout the last year.

Speaking further, the minister stated that the welfare of the police officers was elevated due to the provisions of facilities such as the basic allowances (BATA) of the police officers, and the provision of 500 new jeeps to the Sri Lanka Police.

In return, the Minister stated that he expects honest and quality service from all police officers and action to combat drugs and organized crime.

Also, Public Security Minister Mr. Tiran Alles emphasized that no matter how much some people scolded the police, in the end, Sri Lanka Police is the only one who will come to the people’s aid when they are wronged.

On this occasion, Minister Alles presented a special appreciation prize to M. Savindi Purnima Jayawardena, a student of Kurunegala Holy Family Girls’ College and the daughter of a police officer who ranked first in Kurunegala district and 12th in the island in the commerce stream of 2022 GCE Advanced Level examination.

Public Security Ministry Secretary Mr. Viyani Gunathilaka, Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, North Western Province Senior DIG Kithsiri Jayalath and senior police officers participated in this event.
