Sept 14, Colombo: A special program to educate university students about the role of Parliament in the Public Sphere was recently held at Parliament.
Organized by the Department of Communication of Parliament, more than a hundred students representing the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Rajarata University, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Colombo participated in this program.
Assistant Director (Administration) Mrs. Nishanthi S. Wickramaratne briefed the students about the Committee Process of the Parliament and Mr. D. D. U. K Munasinghe, Assistant Director (Administration) delivered his presentation on the Role of the Parliament and the Law-Making Process.
On the subject of Public Access to the Parliament, the Public Outreach Manager of Parliament Ms. Buddhini Ramanayake informed the students and the Questions and Answers session (Q &A session) on the Parliamentary System and Procedures was conducted by the Director - Administration of Parliament Ms. G. Thacchanarani.
A valuable set of books compiled by the Parliament of Sri Lanka was donated to each of the university libraries, and the lecturers and students of the universities, including Professor E. M. S Ekanayake, Head of the Department of Social Sciences of Rajarata University, gave their comments.
A parliamentary tour was also organized by the Public Outreach Section of the Department of Communication of Parliament for the university students who participated in the program.
