Nov 16, Colombo: The Ministry of Education has instructed the education authorities to initiate an investigation into the incident of a female student being killed and five others being injured after a wall at a school in Wellampitiya collapsed on a group of girl students yesterday (15).
Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Education, has instructed the officers of the Zonal Education Office to investigate the incident and give a report immediately.
Accordingly, Jayewardenepura Zonal Education Director’s office stated that they will immediately go to the concerned school and start an investigation regarding the incident.
Yesterday afternoon (15th), six students of the first grade who were washing their hands were injured when the concrete wall where the water taps were installed in the school collapsed on them.
One six-year-old female student who was injured in the accident died after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, while five others who were injured are receiving treatment in the hospital. Hospital sources said one of the five injured students receiving treatment at the National Hospital is in critical condition.
