Nov 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha told the Chinese Education Minister that he expects China’s support to further strengthen digital education, which is empowered through education reforms.
This was mentioned in a special meeting held between Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha and Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Huai Jinpeng, on the sidelines of the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, France.
Minister of Education Dr. Premajayantha also expressed his gratitude for the support provided by China since time immemorial to achieve Sri Lanka’s ambition to face the future as a country powered by innovation for a transformative education process.
The progress of the educational reform measures and educational development programs implemented in the country’s education sector were also discussed during the meeting.
The two ministers exchanged ideas at length regarding the challenges that Sri Lanka is currently facing in the face of development efforts and the solutions that can be found for them at the international level, especially about the future measures to be taken to strengthen the education system in Sri Lanka so that it can contribute to economic development and about the goals expected to be achieved through close relations between the two countries.
Furthermore, the Minister of Education recalling that recently President Ranil Wickremesinghe signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China’s Huawei Institute for the digitization of education in Sri Lanka said that Huawei is present as a strategic partner for the digitalization of schools in Sri Lanka.
The Minister further stated that the support provided by Huawei on behalf of China to exchange technical advice and technical knowledge and to provide technical officer training and infrastructure is highly appreciated.
