Nov 12, Colombo: The main suspect, who attempted to extort 1.5 million rupees from Janaka Ratnayake, former chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka by making death threats, has been arrested with ice (crystal methamphetamine) drugs.
The Police Media Division said that the Colombo Crime Division had started further investigations into the incident based on a complaint made by the former chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, to the Kirulapone Police Station.
Accordingly, the Police Media Division stated that the main suspect in connection with the incident was arrested by a team of officers from the Colombo Crime Division near the Wellampitiya Post Office.
The 42-year-old suspect is a resident of Sultanagoda area of Matara. The police also found 12.24 grams of ice drug (crystal methamphetamine) in the suspect’s possession when he was arrested.
The suspect’s mobile phone has been taken into police custody and the Colombo Crime Division is conducting further investigations into the incident, the police further said.
