Nov 12, Colombo: Prasanna Ranatunga, Minister of Urban Development and Housing and Chief Government Whip, says that all possible measures will be taken both inside and outside the parliament to get the suspension on Sri Lankan cricket imposed by the International Cricket Council lifted.
The Minister said that the government led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe is working to negotiate with the International Cricket Council to lift the ban on cricket.
He said it is a fact that every citizen of the country accepts that Sri Lanka Cricket is a corrupt institution.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga says that considering it as a national issue, all parties and opposition parties in the Parliament jointly passed a resolution unanimously with the aim of eliminating corruption in the Sri Lanka Cricket board.
The minister pointed out that it is not a political intervention at all.
Many international media, including the Cricinfo website, have reported that the International Cricket Council imposed a cricket ban on Sri Lanka at the request of Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva.
“Sri Lanka cricket is a common property of the people of this country and not his personal property, and if he has made such a request, it is a betrayal of the country,” Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said adding that the minister in charge of the subject should take immediate legal action against it..
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that all cricket lovers should work together against the tyranny of the corrupt governing body.
“The hope of every citizen as well as the children engaged in cricket in Sri Lanka is to regain the right of cricket in Sri Lanka.”
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga further says that the government is constantly working for it.
