May 27, Colombo: British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Sarah Hulton has requested Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alles, for support to prevent Sri Lankans from coming to Britain as illegal immigrants.
British High Commissioner has made this request when she and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Director, Ben Mellor who was visiting Sri Lanka, met the Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles at the Ministry recently.
The current situation in the country was discussed at the meeting and there was a long discussion about the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The Minister of Public Security Alas said that recently Britain introduced new laws and pointed out that the introduction of those laws is absolutely necessary to maintain law and order in the country. The Minister pointed out the importance of introducing new laws by reflecting on the incidents that happened during the recent coronation ceremony in Britain.
Mr. Ben Mellor inquired about four people that have been arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. Mr. Tiran Alles said that all four of them were suspects related to the Easter attack and that they were arrested and brought before the law according to the Prevention of Terrorism Act that existed at that time.
The Minister of Public Security further pointed out that the proposed new Anti-Terrorism Act should be balanced and complete to maintain law and order.
The British High Commissioner also informed the Minister of Public Security that a training workshop on the use of rules and regulations will be organized for the officers of the Sri Lanka Police through zoom technology.
