Thu, May 25, 2023, 10:14 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has focused attention on taking legal action against MP Vadivel Suresh, who defying the party’s decision voted with the ruling party in favor of the motion to remove the Chairman of the Public Utility Commission from his post.

SJB General Secretary MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that a decision will be taken today regarding the action against MP Vadivel Suresh.

Earlier this month at an event, Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Vadivel Suresh said that in the future he will engage in political activities with Minister Harin Fernando, who left the SJB last year and joined the government.

Besides Vadivel Suresh, representing the opposition, MPs Kumara Welgama and A.H.M. Fowzie also voted in favor of the resolution brought by the government to remove the PUCSL Chairman.

Sri Lanka parliament Wednesday passed the address to remove the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission Janaka Ratnayake by a majority of 46 votes. When a division was called for, 123 MPs voted to remove the Chairman and 77 votes were marked against.
