May 23, Colombo: State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe held a discussion with the parliamentarians representing the plantation sector on the matters pointed out as needed more attention during the debate on the approval of the welfare benefits program regulations.
During the meeting, the State Minister of Finance gave instructions to resolve the issues raised and to accommodate people who could not apply for welfare benefits schemes.
Former Minister MP Mano Ganesan, MP V. Radhakrishnan and MP Vadivel Suresh and MP Udaya Kumar joined the meeting while the Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Jeevan Thondaman presented a report containing facts for the discussion.
Minister Semasinghe said that this welfare benefits program should be transparent, and if there are any deficiencies in the initial phase, they will work to correct those deficiencies.
He also thanked everyone for participating in this discussion regardless of party affiliation and pointing out the problems.
