May 22, Colombo: Commissioner General of Labor, Prabath Chandrakeerthi has made a written request to the Inspector General of Police to conduct an urgent investigation on people who spread false information on social media regarding the labor law reforms.
In the letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner General of Labor states that a process of obtaining public comments has been started to obtain opinions and suggestions regarding the reform of labor laws, but drafting of a new legal system considering those opinions has not yet been started.
The letters also states that information is being spread through social media that the new labor legal system has been finalized and that it will have an adverse effect on labor rights. Due to such misinformation, there is a possibility of creating a labor unrest by building distrust and dislike towards the Department of Labor among the laborers and trade unions.
Therefore, the Commissioner General of Labor has requested to conduct a prompt investigation against the people who are spreading these false propaganda through social media.
