* Attendance of all ruling party MPs in parliament made mandatory on Wednesday

May 22, Colombo: The chief government whip of the ruling party has informed in writing to all the MPs representing the ruling party that they must attend the parliamentary session on the 24th.

A three-line whip, a strict instruction to attend and vote according to the party’s position, will be issued and according to the notification, if the members do not participate in the session of the Parliament, it is reported that they must show cause for their absence.

It is reported that the chief government whip issues these kinds of announcements when special bills are passed, including the budget. When this announcement is issued, the MPs will also be banned from traveling abroad.

On the 24th of May, the proposal to remove the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, Mr. Janaka Ratnayake, is scheduled to be debated and the related voting is scheduled to be held that afternoon.

The MPs of the ruling party point out that the participation of the MPs representing the ruling party is mandatory as this debate is very important.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has decided not to support the relevant proposal, the General Secretary of that party, Member of Parliament Mr. Dayasiri Jayasekara mentioned.
