May 21, Colombo: Liyana Saman Kumara Mendis alias Kalupe Duminda, who is said to be involved in three murders, has been arrested by the Police Special Task Force (STF) along with a firearm during a raid in the Udahamulla Watta area of the Gonapinuwala Police Division.

The officers along with the suspect have taken into custody an illegal homemade 12-bore Katas-type firearm and two 12-bore bullets used for the firearm found in the possession of the suspect.

The items have been handed over to Gonapinuwala Police Station for further investigation.

According to the police the suspect’s prior criminal offenses include:

 Attack on foreign tourist restaurant “Mamibos” in Narigama area of Hikkaduwa on 24.02.2022;
 Fatally shooting a person in Metiyagoda police Division on 28.12.2018;
 Shooting and killing of Inashi Chaminda in Hikkaduwa police Division on 22.06.2018;.
 Shooting and killing of Lalith Krishantha in Hikkaduwa police Division on 23.09.2018; and
 Arrest along with 2,758 T56 live ammunition given by an army officer in Siambalanduwa police Division on 21.10. 2018.
