Mar 21, Colombo: The International Monetary Fund announced at the press conference held today to announce the Executive Board’s decision to approve the US$ 3 billion Fund Facility that it will not have any influence on the election process in Sri Lanka.
It was clarified that no recommendation has been issued by the IMF to postpone the local government election.
The International Monetary Fund officials further says that anti-corruption and administrative reforms are two important things to implement the program supported under the fund.
This program will provide Sri Lanka with the opportunity to receive financial facilities of up to 7 billion US dollars from the International Monetary Fund, international financial institutions and multilateral organizations.
Meanwhile, the Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa raising a question under Standing Order 27 (2) requested the government to disclose the conditions reached with the International Monetary Fund to the Parliament.
