* Teacher Transfer Board dissolved
Sun, Mar 19, 2023, 11:33 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 19, Colombo: President Ranil Wickremesinghe has ordered the dissolution of the Teacher Transfer Board of the Ministry of Education with immediate effect.

Accordingly, all the transfers of around 12,500 teachers that were to be implemented based on the recommendations of the Teacher Transfer Board will be cancelled.

Due to various reasons, the examination studies of GCE O/L and A/L students as well as the entire school education process in general, were disrupted in the recent past and therefore, the President has taken this decision to prevent any issue arising in the school education process based on teacher transfers at this time.

Also, teachers had written to the President about their grievances, requesting to at least temporarily suspend the scheduled transfers and give them some relief based on many humanitarian issues including transportation difficulties and increased cost, taxes and housing rents that have arisen with the economic crisis.
