Mar 19, Colombo: Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena inspected the final phase of the construction work of the UMA Oya Project on Saturday (March 18).
Uma Oya Multipurpose Project, which is one of the largest projects, is expected to improve irrigation of 5000 acres of barren agricultural lands in several districts and generate 290 GW/h power in a year.
The Iranian contractor of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Project has agreed to complete the works of the hydroelectric power plant being built with the Uma Oya project by the end of next month and the plant is expected to add 120 MW of electricity capacity to the national grid by June 2023.
Iran Ambassador, Hashem Ashjazadeh, Uva Province Governor A J M Musaamil, State Ministers Shashindra Rajapaksa, Jagath Pushpakumara and Chamara Sampath, MPs Sudarshana Denipitiya, Gayashan Nawanandana and Yadamini Gunawardena and project officers were present on this occasion.
