* State Vesak festival this year in Puttalam

Mar 17, Colombo: The Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs has decided that the 2023 State Vesak Festival will take place in the Puttalam District.

The main festival will take place at the Kedellewa Sri Rathanasiri Pirivena in Chilaw.

An official decision-making discussion on the holding of State Vesak festival in Puttalam district was held yesterday (16) chaired by the Anunayaka of Sri Lanka Ramanya Maha Nikaya Most Venerable Nadagamuwe Vijaya Maithri Thera.

It is planned to celebrate the Vesak festival this year with the aim of creating Buddhist revival across the country with Puttalam district as the center.

Mr. Somaratne Vidanapathirana, Secretary of the Ministry of Buddhasasana Religious and Cultural Affairs, who explained about the program, stated that they are working together with institutions at the national level as well as at the district and regional levels.

The officials also discussed the Pre-Vesak programs state Vesak festival and Vesak Poya day programs during the Vesak week.
