* Police arrest a suspect with counterfeit currency of Rs. 3.5 million

Mar 10, Colombo: The Police Special Task Force says that a person was arrested with a stock of counterfeit currency notes amounting to 3.5 million rupees and a sharp weapon in Devi Puram area of Pudukuduiruppu.

Police Special Task Force have seized 700 notes of Rs. 5000 denomination, a computer and a color printer along with the arrest of the individual.

The suspect was arrested during a raid conducted on a tip off received by the officers of the Police Special Task Force Mullaitivu Camp . The police said that this is the largest cache of fake currency notes found so far.

According to the police, 570 currency notes bearing the number R/ 253673053 and 114 currency notes bearing the number R/ 247444625 are among the fake money.

The 40-year-old suspect, a resident of Trincomalee area, is scheduled to be produced before the Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court today (10).
