June 10, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today with South Korea targeting employment for Sri Lankans in the Korean shipbuilding industry.
The agreement to establish a training center aimed at providing skilled workers for Korean shipbuilding jobs was signed under the chairmanship of the Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment, Mr. Manusha Nanayakkara, between the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Sri Jinarathana Vocational Training Institute attached to the Gangarama Temple and Korean Cluelife Institute.
Mr. Hilmi Aziz, Chairman of Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, Mr. Prasad Jayaweera, Secretary of the Board of Governors of Sri Jinarathana Vocational Training Institute, and Mr. Jon Yung Lim, CEO of Korean Cluelife, signed the agreement.
According to this MoU, workers are to be trained for jobs in the Korean shipbuilding industry.
In the initial phase Workers are to be trained for welding jobs in the ship construction industry and ship painting training and electrical training are will be given in the second phase. Korean language training will also be given to all the trainees who are being trained for jobs in the ship construction industry.
The Sri Jinaratana Educational Institute affiliated to the Gangarama Temple provides the necessary facilities for training and the Korean Cluelife Institute conducts the training. The institute will also coordinate the Korean trainees.
Sri Lanka will be given the necessary support to obtain employment quotas for job opportunities for all the trainees who receive this training and necessary coordination activities to direct them to jobs in the Korean ship building industry.
The Foreign Employment Bureau will conduct monitoring activities to ensure the quality of the relevant training activities.
Resident of Gangarama temple Srastrapati Hinkumbure Kondagngna Thero and Mr. Priyantha Senanayake, General Manager of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, were present at the occasion.
