June 09, Colombo: The body of a five-year-old child with stab wounds has been recovered from a construction site in Mulleriyawa.
The Police Media Division said that the dead body of the child was found yesterday evening (08) during an investigation carried out by the Mulleriyawa Police based on information received by the 119 emergency number.
The five and a half year-old child has lived in Malambe, Halbarawa area, according to the police.
It has been revealed that the child was under the care of the grandparents as the father of the deceased child lives separately and the mother leaves for work during the day.
The police state that the Magistrate's inquest and the forensic officer's on-site investigation have been done by now.
The body has been placed at the morgue of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases to perform the post-mortem examination.
The Mulleriyawa Police are conducting further investigations to determine whether there is any foul play involved.
