* Sri Lanka Air Force soldier commits suicide while on duty

June 05, Colombo: A Sri Lanka Air Force soldier while on duty has committed suicide by shooting himself with his duty firearm, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Air Force Sergeant residing in Abeypura area of Trincomalee.

Bambalapitiya Police Station has started investigations based on information that an air force soldier has shot himself with a firearm at Fonseka Place in Bambalapitiya Sunday.

It has been revealed in the current investigation that the deceased has killed himself using his duty weapon near a deserted house in Fonseka Place while he was on duty along with several other air force soldiers.

The magisterial inquiry has been carried out and the body is placed in the mortuary of the Colombo National Hospital.

Bambalapitiya Police are conducting further investigations.
