June 04, Colombo: Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles has called for a detailed report on the incident that took place in Jaffna between Member of Parliament Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, leader of the Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF), and the police officers.

Alles stated that the Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) of Police of Jaffna has been informed to provide a special report on the incident as soon as possible.

The Ministry of Public Security stated that it will report the facts to the court tomorrow (05) regarding the incident.

The incident was reported when MP Ponnambalam was meeting the people in Mardhan Karni Vadamarachchi East in Jaffna last Friday.

The MP has lodged a complaint that he was attacked by a group of people identified as police officers while he was engaging with the public.

However, in a video of the incident currently being circulated on several social media platforms it appears that the MP was verbally abusing the police officers in plain clothes and the policemen running away.
