* Investigation launched into illegal sand mining in Arisimalai

June 04, Colombo: The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) says an investigation has been launched regarding a large-scale sand mining in front of Arisimale Aranya Senasana, in Pulmoddai, Trincomalee.

A team of GSMB officials including Mr. K. Vignesha Murthy, Trincomalee District GSMB Mining Engineer have visited the site and conducted a raid.

However, there was no one at the site during the raid but two excavators that were left there have been seized and handed over to Pulmoddai Police for further investigations.

Mining Engineer Mr. K. Vignesha Murthy says that a company has done this sand mining without proper permission or license from his office and according to the damage done, about 35000 tons of sand has been removed in a week.
