* Disciplinary inquiry into former head of state intelligence regarding Easter Sunday attack

Jan 27, Colombo: Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles Friday said a disciplinary inquiry will be conducted urgently against the former head of State Intelligence Service, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Nilantha Jayawardena, who is accused of failing to prevent the terrorist attack on Easter Sunday in 2019, and submit the report to the Supreme Court.

The Minister said that the court decision states that a disciplinary inquiry should be conducted on Mr. Nilantha Jayawardena and the report should be submitted to the Supreme Court within 6 months, and the proceedings will be carried out according to the court decision.

The Minister also said the Criminal Investigation Department has also conducted an investigation on the Senior DIG of Western Province Mr. Deshabandu Tennakoon, who is accused of attacking the people’s struggle, and disciplinary measures have been taken against him, and both reports have been forwarded to the Attorney General.

The Minister also said that the Attorney General has not given any notice regarding those reports.

The Minister of Public Security, Mr. Tiran Alles, said this while answering a question asked by journalists during a press conference held at the ministry today.
