* Court issues notices to Ajith Nivard Cabraal and Lalith Weeratunga

Jan 26, Colombo: The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court issued notices to former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and former President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga to appear before court on February 17.

Yesterday, the court released former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal from a case against him regarding an allegation of criminal misappropriation of 6.5 million US dollars of government funds.

That is according to a notice given by the complainant Ven. Thiniawala Palitha Thero that it will be withdrawn in order to submit an amended complaint.

It was stated that legal action will be taken against several other people in connection with the charge. Accordingly, Palitha Thero submitted an amended complaint today.

In addition to Mr. Cabral, Mr. Lalith Weeratunga has also been accused. Accordingly, a notice was issued to both of them to appear in court.
