Jan 23, Colombo: In an operation conducted by the Police Special Task Force (STF) near a famous restaurant in Rajagiriya, three drug dealers were arrested with 01 kg and 254 grams of heroin worth over 20 million rupees.
During this raid, the police special task force soldiers have found 140,000 rupees earned from drug trafficking in the possession of the suspects.
It is noteworthy that the suspects have transported these drugs while engaging in passenger transport services. Investigations have shown that drugs are distributed while transporting passengers, for the convenience of distribution without being suspected and checked by the security forces.
In this raid conducted on the 20th, two people aged 39 and 48 years old who were in the van transporting drugs and residing in Puttalam and Mattakkuliya areas and a 41-year-old resident of Maharagama, who abetted the drug trafficking, were arrested in Pannipitiya.
These suspects have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
The Special Task Force Media Section states that in the two and a half years since the current STF commander DIG Waruna Jayasundara was appointed as the commander, the STF has seized about 234 kg of heroin.
The Special Task Force Media Section further stated that the Police Special Task Force conducts regular raids to disrupt the international drug network.
According to information received by the officers of the Special Task Force Gonahena camp, under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Keerthi Wijesinghe, a team of officers including Police Inspector SP Gunathilaka of Gonahena camp conducted the raid in Rajagiriya on the 20th.
