Jan 22, Colombo: International Association Football Federation (FIFA) has suspended the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL).
In a letter directed by FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura Sunday, FIFA informed that FFSL has been suspended with effect from January 21 until further notice in accordance with article 16 of the FIFA Statutes.
The ban has been imposed due to the fact that the Sri Lankan authorities deviated from the road map and complaints regarding the football official election held on the 14th. According to the report, third party intervention in the election of the officials has led to the suspension.
FIFA in December issued red notice on local football authorities, raising concerns over the electoral roadmap of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka.
The suspension prevents Sri Lanka from taking part in international competitions.
