* Bus driver involved in Nanu Oya accident remanded

Jan 22, Colombo: The driver of the bus involved in the accident that killed 7 people and injured 53 people in Radella, Nanu Oya has been remanded until February 1st.

The 62-year-old bus driver, a resident of Kudaundua, Horana, was also injured in the accident and is being treated in the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital.

The Nuwara Eliya Magistrate, who went to the hospital to investigate the condition of the bus driver, has issued the order to remand him.

According to the Police, the bus carrying a group of Grade 11 students of Colombo Thurston College and returning to Colombo after a trip collided head-on with a van traveling from Dik Oya to Nuwara Eliya and a three wheeler on the Nanu Oya- Radella shortcut road and plunged 40 feet into a precipice on Friday night.

Six people in the van and the driver of the three wheeler died in the accident while the passengers of the bus including 47 students sustained injuries.
