Sun, Jan 22, 2023, 10:23 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 22, Colombo: The Ministry of Education has focused its attention on limiting the distance that school students can be taken for educational trips following the accident that involved a bus carrying students from Thurstan College, Colombo.

A senior official of the Ministry told Neth News that the maximum distance that students can be taken on trips on a day is to be limited to 100 kilometers.

The students who are taken for educational trips must be brought back to the respective school before 6 pm.

In the future, more attention is also to be paid to the areas selected for the educational trips taken by the school students.

The senior official of the Ministry of Education added that steps will be taken to issue a circular containing new instructions to all schools and education authorities immediately.

The bus carrying the students who had been on an educational tour plunged 40 feet down a precipice, after it collided with a van on the Radella Short Cut Road in Nuwara Eliya.

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha visited the Nuwara Eliya hospital yesterday to inquire into the welfare of the students injured in the accident.
