* Tense situation in Colombo as trade unions protest again new tax policies

Feb 08, Colombo: A tense situation arose in Colombo Fort today as several trade unions protested the government’s new tax policies in front of the Fort Railway Station.

Almost 100 trade unions including the trade unions of the three largest state institutions namely Port Authority, Ceylon Electricity Board and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation,, gathered in front of the Colombo Fort railway station to protest against the government's tax policy,

Due to the tense situation around the Colombo Fort, several police and army cordons were placed for security and the protestors were surrounded and prevented from entering the Fort railway station.

Due to the protest, traffic has been restricted on many roads including Lotus Park and Olcott Mawatha.
