* Tense situation near parliament after police block Buddhist monks’ protest march

Feb 08, Colombo: A tense situation arose earlier today near the parliament when the Police blocked a protest march staged by a group of Buddhist monks against the full implementation of the 13th Amendment.

The group of monks engaged in a Satyagraha today near the Parliament against the preparations for the full implementation of the 13th Constitutional Amendment.

The protest march with the participation of a large number of monks started this morning near Kotte Parakumba Pirivena.

The monks who tried to march towards the parliament through Polduwa junction were stopped by the police and not allowed to proceed towards the parliament.

As a result a tense situation arose near the parliament while the President Ranil Wickremesinghe was delivering the government’s policy statement in parliament.
