* Court bans protests that interfere with National Independence Day event at Galle Face

Feb 03, Colombo: A court order has been issued prohibiting the protests scheduled to be held in Colombo tomorrow (04) in protest of the 75th National Independence Day celebrations.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage has issued an order today (03) preventing the protesters from entering the Galle Face area where the 75th Independence Day ceremony will be held tomorrow.

The magistrate issued the order considering the request made by Fort, Kompagnagna Veediya and Kollupitiya police stations to prohibit the agitations and demonstrations organized by opposition activists including student unions, trade unions and mass organizations disrupting the national event.

The magistrate issued this order preventing entry to all roads to the Galle Face area including Galle Road, Independence Roundabout, Aliya Nana Roundabout, Marker Mawatha, Marine Drive, etc. , while stating that the agitators have the right to and can protest peacefully.
