Apr 01, Colombo: The Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has requested the Inspector General of Police to carry out a proper investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department regarding the trade union leaders and other strikers who stormed the Kolonnawa oil storage terminal by force.
In a letter to the Inspector General of Police, the Minister informed that the trade union representatives who started a Satyagraha near the Kolonnawa petroleum storage terminal on the 27th March forcibly entered the security zone where fuel distribution was being carried out.
The Minister points out that by doing so, they disabled the fuel distribution which is designated as an essential service.
Therefore, in his letter, the minister has requested to provide the necessary security to all fuel storage and distribution zones to prevent such an unsafe situation from occurring again.
Also, the minister has added that due to this situation, the loss caused to the institution and stakeholders has been calculated and necessary legal measures are being taken to recover from those personnel who caused the disruption.
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said in the letter sent to the Inspector General of Police that the people involved in this incident, which caused a huge loss to the country’s economy, will be identified and disciplinary action will be taken against them.
