Sept 30, Colombo: Former President Maithripala Sirisena has submitted a writ petition to the Court of Appeal. Requesting to cancel the summons issued to appear before the Fort Magistrate Court.

Fort Magistrate’s Court has issued the order for the former President to appear before the court in repose to a private complaint filed regarding the failure to prevent the Easter attack despite having prior knowledge of an attack.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate and the Registrar of that Court have been named as respondents.

Father Cyril Gamini and a person who was a victim of the Easter Sunday attack had filed the complaint.

Accordingly, the Fort Magistrate’s Court has issued a summons to former President Maithripala Sirisena, who is named as a respondent, to appear in court on the 14th October.

Mr. Maithripala Sirisena in the writ petition filed before the Court of Appeal states that the relevant personal complaint has been filed based on false evidence and illegal facts.
