Sept 30, Colombo: Acting Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe says any party who is currently receiving welfare benefits will not be at risk of losing benefits under the program to identify suitable persons who are eligible to receive benefits.
The minister points out that the program will only streamline the methods of receiving the benefits and identify the parties who should receive further benefits.
Minister Semasinghe also emphasized that the government is not ready to cut social welfare under any circumstances.
Accordingly, the date for calling for applications under the program to identify suitable persons for the payment of benefits, which was scheduled to end today (30), has been extended to October 15.
It is mandatory for all beneficiaries currently receiving Samurdhi, elderly, disabled, kidney disease living allowance and public assistance, applicants on waiting lists and all persons expecting benefits to complete this new registration, he said.
To apply for this, all applicants should fill up the model application form and hand it over to their respective Divisional Secretariat. More information is available on 0112 – 151481 or by calling the Government Information Center at 1919.
Failure to register for this program may result in loss of further state benefits under Section 7(1) of the Welfare Benefits Act.
