* Defense secretary explains the reason for declaring high security zones
Mon, Sep 26, 2022, 09:58 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 26, Colombo: Defense Secretary, General (Retired) Kamal Gunaratne says that the police will enforce the law if the people are being harassed by holding protests, even though a stable situation is being created in the country.

Speaking at a press conference held today (26), the Defense Secretary said the defense forces are ready to assist the police to control chaotic situations if needed.

Explaining about the designation of high security zones, General Gunaratne said High Security Zones were not something introduced in Sri Lanka “yesterday”.

“These are things that have been used to control some of the situations that have been coming for a long time. In the past, the Presidential Secretariat was surrounded. Government officials had no chance to perform their duties there,” he pointed out.

“If such decision-making places of the country are obstructed, we must protect such places. The previous situation should not happen again,” the Defense Secretary stressed.
