Sept 25, Colombo: The Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation, Mahinda Amaraweera today discussed with the business community the problems related to the Pinnawala Animal Park and the elephant sanctuary.

During the meeting, the business community presented a proposal about the activities to be implemented in the region. The first item of the proposal is to maintain Pinnawala Animal Park and Elephant Shelter as a Night Safari Park.

The business community also pointed out that the government is losing a lot of money daily due to the interruption of business activities as the facilities close at around 05:00 pm.

The Minister asked the Director General of the Department of Zoological Gardenss whether there is any legal impediment to keep the facilities open longer.

It was pointed out that there is no legal obstacle for that and the Minister advised to implement the proposal as soon as possible.
