* Cabinet is yet to be apprised of the agreement with the IMF, President has informed the Speaker

Sept 22, Colombo: Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told the Parliament today that President Ranil Wickramasinghe informed him that the Cabinet will be informed about the Staff-Level Agreement reached by the Government of Sri Lanka with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before the final decision.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said in Parliament that President Ranil Wickremesinghe will inform the Parliament about the agreement reached with the IMF.

Addressing the Parliament, the Speaker said President Ranil Wickremesinghe mentioned that the Cabinet or any other government official has not been informed about the Staff-Level Agreement the with the IMF so far and the Cabinet is yet to be briefed.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena also said that the President mentioned that further amendments are being made to the agreement reached with the International Monetary Fund.

The agreement reached by the government and the International Monetary Fund should be approved by the IMF board and therefore he will not give a final agreement until negotiations with other creditors and countries are completed, the President has said.

The President has stated that once the creditors’ report is added and approved by the IMF Board, then the Cabinet and Opposition will be briefed on the agreement, the Speaker informed the Parliament.
