Nov 28, Colombo: Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena says railway transportation from Mahawa to Jaffna will be suspended for five months from January 15, 2023.

The Minister said the decision has been taken to suspend the services until the dilapidated railway track is restored.

Minister Gunawardena speaking in Parliament today (28) said although the railway transportation continued throughout, the railway track has vastly rundown making it difficult to continue travel.

He said it is possible to provide a good railway service to Jaffna by completing the relevant maintenance work within 5 months.

The Transport Minister assured that the renovation will be completed within five months.
