* Galwewa Siridhamma Thera granted bail

Nov 23, Colombo: Galwewa Siridhamma Thera, who was detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and later remanded has been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

Colombo Additional Magistrate. Mrs. T. N. L Mahawatta today (23) ordered to release Galwewa Siridhamma Thera, the convener of the Inter-University Bhikku Federation, according to the advice of the Attorney General.

Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the release of the suspect Siridhamma Thero on two sureties of 500,000 rupees each.

The police arrested convener of Inter-University Student Federation (IUSF), Wasantha Mudalige and Galwewa Siridhamma Thera, convener of the Inter-University Bhikku Federation during a protest held by the Inter-University Student Federation against the government at Union Place in Colombo on August 18, 2022.

The Ministry of Defense authorized the police to detain and interrogate the duo for 90 days under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
