* Four including a foreigner arrested for illegal recruitment of people promising overseas jobs

Nov 20, Colombo: A senior official of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau said that four persons, including a foreigner, who had conducted interviews by advertising job offers in Romania through social media, were arrested this afternoon (20).

The official said that the arrested foreigner is an Italian male and the other three are Sri Lankans and that this group was arrested while hiding in a hotel in Badulla area.

The official said that the Foreign Employment Bureau had received information that these people were conducting interviews at major hotels in different parts of the country claiming that they would offer jobs in Romania and they had posted advertisements about this on several social media networks.

He added that as a result of the information received from the people and an investigation through social media networks, it was revealed that the relevant persons are in the Badulla area and an operation was carried out.

The official further said legal action will be taken against the suspects under the employment laws and they will be produced in the Badulla court.
