Sun, Nov 20, 2022, 11:34 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 20, Colombo: The Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera, has instructed the Secretary of the Ministry, Gunadasa Samarasinghe, to send a letter to the Inspector General of Police requesting the arrest of several persons who by force entered the Field Crops Research and Development Institute, Mahailuppallama without permission.

The Ministry of Agriculture said a group of an organization claiming to be a farmer's union has entered the research institute without permission.

The ministry says this research institute is an institute that strictly follows the plant quarantine rules and regulations and that the people who forcibly entered the place have acted in such a way as to cause inconvenience to the agronomists and officials working there.

The Ministry of Agriculture said it will issue a circular instructing the authorities of the relevant institutions not to allow any person to forcefully break into any farm or research institute belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture without proper permission.
