* Six women arrested for attacking police officers with rocks

Nov 17, Colombo: Six women have been arrested in connection with an incident of assaulting a group of police officers who were on a raid of heroin In Pubudupura area, Anuradhapura, and obstructing their duty.

A group of officers from the Anuradhapura Division Criminal Investigation Division arrested four suspects with 14 grams and 220 milligrams of heroin in a raid conducted in the area yesterday (16) afternoon.

When the arrested suspects were about to be taken to the police, six female relatives of the suspects who came to the place attacked the police officers with stones.

A police officer injured in the rocks attack has been admitted to the Anuradhapura General Hospital for treatment.

The six women have been arrested for the offenses of obstructing the duty of police officers, being members of an illegal assembly and injuring the police officers with stones.

The arrested suspects are to be produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court today (17).
