* Police chief takes tough disciplinary action against officers who assaulted journalists

July 09, Colombo: Police Media Spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Police Nihal Thalduwa says that the Inspector General of Police has ordered an immediate investigation into the attack on several media reporters by the officers of the Police Special Task Force (STF) in front of the Prime Minister’s private residence.

It has been reported that IGP is set to take tough disciplinary action against STF SSP Romesh Liyanage, who has reportedly ordered the assault on six NewsFirst journalists, who were covering the protests outside the Prime Minister’s private residence in Colombo -07.

The injured journalists have been rushed to the hospital.

The officer and three others are to be suspended immediately over the assault on the MTV journalists.
