July 06, Colombo: To promote the tourism industry amid the fuel crisis, the Ministry of Tourism has implemented a new program with the support of the Sri Lanka Transport Board and the Sri Lanka Army.
According to Tourism and Lands Minister Harin Fernando, the drivers registered with the Ministry of Tourism, will be given the required fuel after calling the given hotline numbers and giving their itinerary.
The minister said this today (06) while joining the press conference held at the Department of Government Information auditorium to inform the people about the tourism industry revival plan and the upcoming programs of the Ministry of Lands.
Out of the 3000 calls received so far, arrangements have been made to provide fuel to about a thousand drivers. It is also possible to get the coupon they want by visiting the office of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and giving the relevant information. Fuel will not be issued by providing only one's tourism ID.
There is an increase of 8.8% in the arrival of tourists this month compared to last month. Despite the crisis, tourists are coming and by the coming month of August, a large number of devotees are expected to come from countries like India, France and England to visit the festival at Nallur temple. And by December, which is the winter season, the number of tourists will increase.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Lands is working to provide a large amount of land for crop cultivation. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, freehold deeds will be given for the lands that had licenses in the future. The legal work required to implement it is already being prepared by the Prime Minister's Office.
In allotment of land, special attention is given to special crop cultivation projects, hotel projects, and investment related projects.
