* Police arrest 13 people for attacking a filling station in Wellawaya area

July 06, Colombo: Police have arrested 13 people in connection with an attack on a petrol station in Wellawaya city last night.

When the filling station notified the people that it had run out of fuel after distribution, some of the people who came to get fuel had behaved in an unruly manner attacking the filling station with rocks and bottles.

A police officer at the filling station was also injured in the attack.

The police said that 13 suspects were arrested and 20 motorcycles were seized in connection with the incident.

The suspects are aged between 18 and 45 and are residents of Passara, Atalivewa and Wellawaya. They are to be produced in the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court today.
